SSO: What it is, why it’s important, how it works in Airalo for Business

You've probably seen it before: "Sign in with Google" or "Log in with Facebook." That's Single Sign-On, or more commonly called SSO. It's a way to access multiple applications using only one set of login credentials (username and password).

For organizations, this set of credentials is provided by their identity provider (Google, Microsoft, Okta) and is centrally managed by the organization.

But why is this feature important for businesses? In this article, we will explore why we added SSO to our Airalo for Business solution and how it helps improve eSIM adoption and safety in your business.

What is SSO?

At its core, SSO allows users to authenticate their credentials once and gain access to various authorized applications without requiring repeated logins.

This centralized authentication process streamlines the user experience by eliminating the need for users to create a full account and add details like their full name, role, email, and new passwords. Instead, SSO enhances administrative control by centralizing user management and access, thereby providing admins with better visibility over user access to applications and resources.

In the case of Airalo for Business, instead of asking employees to create their own set of credentials and choose their username and password, they can simply log in with SSO. Essentially, that means they sign in with their company IdP (Identity Provider) credentials.

Why is it important to use SSO?

As a business, you are using multiple online platforms to run everyday business tasks, which makes access to these platforms more risky for leaks and hacking. Platforms that offer SSO make it easy for your tech administrators and HR team to manage roles and access securely and reliably..

Most companies use many different platforms: email, CRM, project management tools, etc. SSO makes it easier to connect these platforms. Employees don't have to log in separately to each one. This saves time, reduces frustration, and encourages adoption by making it quick and easy to access a new platform.

Benefits of SSO

Why should businesses choose SSO? Let's break down the benefits of using SSO:

  • Increased productivity: Employees can start using Airalo for Business immediately, without needing to create an account from scratch, reducing ramp-up time and accelerating adoption.
  • Improved security: Stronger password policies and centralized access control mean fewer password leaks.
  • Reduced IT costs: Easy access reduces password reset requests and simplifies operational tasks for managers.
  • Facilitated team management: Admin teams don't need to manually create or delete users or update user attributes. Everything is managed automatically and centrally through the organization's  IdP.
  • Better user experience: A smoother, more streamlined login process means employees can adopt the platform with ease.
  • Simplified compliance: SSO makes it easier to meet security and data privacy regulations.

How SSO helps employees in your company adopt Airalo for Business

SSO provides your company with security and ease of access, and it solves a major challenge: employee adoption.

Any solution you implement is only useful when employees actively adopt and use it. Here's how SSO helps with employee adoption:

  • It makes it easy for employees to access their accounts immediately. They don't need to worry about creating an account and filling in all the details. Instead, they get immediate access and can benefit from the solution quickly.

For employees who are traveling, the need for connectivity often arises at the last minute, so you don't want them to spend time creating an account or struggling to log in. Instead, they can quickly jump into the Airalo app and purchase or access their desired eSIM.

  • Employees don't have to spend time asking for access or credentials. Thanks to SSO, employees are automatically given the right level of access for Airalo for Business. Employees who require access to the Partner Platform are given the right credentials without having to request them.

This is thanks to System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) and Identity Provider (IdP) integration. This integration automatically manages user roles and permissions. When someone's role changes in your company's system, their access to Airalo Partners changes automatically too.

  • SSO in the Airalo app. Your team members can use SSO to log in to the Airalo app on their phones. This makes it easy for them to manage their eSIMs on the go.

In short, SSO makes Airalo for Business easier, safer, and more efficient for your company. It's all about streamlining the experience and giving you more control.

How Airalo for Business uses SSO

At Airalo Partners, we've designed our solutions to provide secure access and easy adoption. That's why we use SSO. Using SSO with Airalo for Business is easy. Here's how it works.

Once you've joined Airalo for Business, you can enable SSO from the Company settings section. You'll need to connect the Airalo for Business platform with your IdP provider via a process called SCIM provisioning.

By connecting the Airalo for Business platform with your IdP provider, all your employees, their roles, and status (employed or unemployed) will sync continuously and automatically. For companies, this means saving time by not having to manually add or remove employees or update their roles to manage access to the Partner Platform.

Once your employee list has been integrated via your IdP provider, all your employees will show up in the users list, categorized by role.

You'll be able to automatically invite each user to Airalo for Business. Employees can join your organization on their Airalo app directly using SSO. No extra steps are required to create and fill out account details.

This cuts down the time for onboarding and adoption, making it easier for employees who are about to travel to find the eSIM support they need ahead of time.

📚The setup and integration process requires zero code and we provide comprehensive resources to guide you through the process.
